Rimkieta is the name of one of the largest slums of Ouagadougo, the capital of Burkina Faso. Here, the average life expectancy is 59 years and the infant mortality rate is an astonishing 15% in children up to 5 years. In addition, only 4% of children between the ages of 3 and 5 attend school.

When faced with this cruel reality, a group of Spaniards created the Friends of Rimkieta Foundation in 2004. Montse Riba, Juan Carlos Vázquez-Dodero, Jose Vidal, Mercè Casanovas, Fernando Infiesta, and María Vázquez-Dodero, joined forces to improve the lives of 60 million inhabitants in the Rimkieta neighborhood.

Since then, the foundation has created numerous donation campaigns, and few in partnership with Nicequest, to collect items to cover the basic needs of the population and help them improve their quality of life. The projects are divided into different areas: education, social development, health, and water.

Make a donation through Nicequest

Since our team met the Friends of Rimkieta foundation, we started to launch frequent campaigns to get online donations. Shells donated by our members became real gifts for those in need. You can access our website, go to the donation section, and make a donation with your Shells.

We currently have three different online donation campaigns with the foundation: A bicycle to get around in Burkina, school supplies kit, and children’s vitamin supplements.

Children’s vitamin supplements:

One-third of child deaths in Burkina Faso is caused by childhood malnutrition and many of the children who suffered from malnutrition and had remained alive have low physical and brain development.  

Therefore, the foundation helps fight this nutritional deficit through a growth control program for children with vitamin supplements.

To date, more than 5,600 donations were carried out for this project by Nicequest!

A bicycle to move in Burkina:

The Rimkieta community suffers from serious sanitation problems and public transport is nearly non-existent. In the rainy season, the amount of mud and heat (up to up to 45°C which is 113°F ) make the mobility of the inhabitants even more difficult in the community square.

With your Shells, you can donate a bicycle, and allow individuals the ease to go to school and get food.  

School Supply Kit:

The enrollment rate in Burkina Faso is very low and one of the reasons is because parents cannot afford school supplies for their children. Friends of Rimkieta helps grant scholarships and gives a school supplies kit to thousands of children, in addition to monitoring the performance of students and ensuring that they are attending classes.
